Immersion Workshop

A Guided Pilgrimage from First Dot to Masterful Flow

The Journey: A Structured Pilgrimage

This is not merely a course—it is a transformative pilgrimage designed to guide you, step by step, from curious beginner to confident, intuitive artist. Over nine carefully curated months, you will move through three distinct phases of development, each building upon the last, within a supportive container of expert guidance and community fellowship.

Workshop Dates: February 1, 2026 – November 29, 2026

Note: May 2026 is a contemplative break month for integration and personal practice.

Phase 1: Tune the Mind (Months 1-3: Feb, Mar, Apr)

Laying the Foundation of Perception and Practice

We begin not with technique, but with the instrument of all creation: your mind. This phase is about cultivating the artist’s most essential tool—awareness.

  • Setting the Sacred Tone: Establishing your practice space and mindful ritual.
  • The Journey of a Dot: Exploring potential, movement, and the birth of line.
  • Mind as Lens: Understanding your perception and the “Circles of Perception” model.
  • Habit Building: Creating sustainable routines for creative discipline.
  • The Art of Seeing: Learning to observe without labeling; drawing with your eyes.
  • Seeing with Hands: Connecting hand, eye, and mind through mindful drawing.
  • Introduction to Watercolor: The philosophy of the medium—surrendering to flow.
  • Color Theory as Emotion: Understanding color as a personal, emotional language.
  • Meditative Exercises: Integrating mindfulness into every mark.
Phase 2: Tame the Techniques (Months 4-6: Jun, Jul, Aug)

Mastering the Language of Watercolor

With a tuned mind, you now engage deeply with the medium’s full vocabulary. This phase is about gaining confidence and skill through deliberate practice.

  • Core Watercolor Techniques: A deep dive into the essential methods.
  • Wet-on-Dry Control: Painting with precision and intention.
  • Glazing for Depth: Building luminous layers of color and light.
  • Mastering Tones: Creating form and volume through value.
  • The Art of Blending: Achieving seamless, ethereal transitions.
  • Creating Textures: Exploring salt, blooms, lifts, and other expressive effects.
  • Spontaneous Painting: Letting go of over-planning to embrace intuition.
  • The Postcard Project: Applying skills in a series of small, joyful compositions.
  • Perspectives & Light/Shadow: Introducing dimension and dramatic contrast.
  • Negative Painting: Defining subjects by painting the space around them.
Phase 3: Begin Your Flow (Months 7-9: Sep, Oct, Nov)

Synthesizing Skill into Personal Expression

Here, technique meets soul. You will apply your full toolkit to classic subjects, developing your unique voice and preparing for your final, personal project.

  • The Art of Pouring: Unleashing dynamic, fluid compositions.
  • Landscapes: Capturing the essence of sky, land, and atmosphere.
  • Streetscapes: Conveying life, architecture, and narrative.
  • Still Life: Telling intimate stories with light and arrangement.
  • Inks & Granulation: Experimenting with bold lines and granular textures for dramatic effects.
  • Painting Wildlife: Capturing gesture, spirit, and life in motion.
Final Project Month (November):

A dedicated period of personalized mentorship. With Shyam’s guidance, you will:

  1. Research a subject you are passionate about (e.g., birds, botanicals, urban scenes).
  2. Develop a series of works exploring this theme.
  3. Create a final, curated piece for your portfolio, synthesizing all you have learned.
